STAGISTA PROGRAMMI AFRICA CON PAX CHRISTI

09 / 01 / 2010 - Pax Christi is a non-governmental Catholic peace movement working worldwide on a broad range of issues of peace and reconciliation, human rights, security and disarmament and economic justice. Pax Christi’s International Secretariat (www.paxchristi.net), based in Brussels, is seeking at this time the assistance of an intern to work in support of its expanding Africa programme.

The intern will be provided with lodging in the centre of Brussels and in close proximity to the Secretariat. Candidates will be expected to provide proof of a valid Schengen visa and evidence of their ability to cover monthly living expenses for the entirety of the internship period.
Application deadline: 22nd January 2010. Interviews will be conducted the week of 1st February. Position is from 15th February 2010 to 11th February 2011 (twelve months).

Description
1. Assists in reporting and evaluation for major programme areas in the Great Lakes, Horn of Africa and West Africa regions;
2. Organises Regional Consultations and other meetings in Africa and in Brussels and
ensures timely follow-up;
3. Responds to various email and telephone communications regarding the Africa
Programme;
4. Assists in networking and lobby activities on diverse concerns related to Pax Christi’s
agenda for peace and human rights in Africa;
5. Reviews status and records of all African Member Organisations and prepares reports to
the Executive Committee;
6. Contributes to organisational strategies and programme implementation;
7. Assists in project design and the preparation of corresponding materials;
8. Helps to prepare funding proposals for projects in support of programme objectives in
Africa;
9. Ensures administrative support, monitoring and reporting for the Sudan Integrated
Peacebuilding Programme;
10. Contributes to publications and other communications directed toward international Pax Christi network;
11. Works in collaboration with Africa Programme Officer.
Requirements
1. University degree in international relations, development, African studies or other suitable academic background;
2. Proficiency in spoken and written French and English;
3. Good organisational and interpersonal skills;
4. Able to work and cooperate in an international and multicultural environment;
5. Self-motivating and ability to work independently and as a team;
6. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office applications, etc);
7. Some field-based experience in Africa an asset.
